I'm not sure if it does what you need it to do, but someone in kplug
turned me onto this applet and it rocks. The downside is that it's
java. The upside is that it's portable...sort of.

thanks for the suggestion, Mike :) Unfortunately, I need a CLI
utility. GUIs give me headaches, and are hard to write scripts to
interact with ;)
