I can't find the article  now, but Dell said they made a config error on
their order website and accidently left the warranties off the option list.
I guess you can order Ubuntu with full warranty/service support just like if
you purchased M$ OS.


As I understand the situation, Dell removed the warranties from the
option list after the Ubuntu laptops had been available for a few
days.  Then their order-entry people tried to explain this away by
citing the non-standard qualties of Linux.

When they were challenged, "accidentally left the warranties off" was
the excuse for this phenomenon.
