I did some retrofit in some rooms in my house. I brought a #12 green
wire from the circuit breaker panel to one of the junction boxes in
the attic. Green is the standard color for the secondary or safety
ground wire. For most houses the age of yours, the junction box is a
ceiling light fixture.

For the circuits I upgraded I ran new 12-3 and 14-3 Romex wire. You
could also run green wires down the wall from the attic and attach to
the ground connection in the outlet. You might be able to run it right
down next to the 2 wire romex already in place. Getting it to go into
the box will be a little tricky. The main thing to remember is to be
code compliant this needs to run all the way back to the circuit
breaker box and connect to the ground bus there.
