Okay, this has got to be the oddest thing I've seen in a while.

Yes, it does ZFS.

I can't decide if it's cool, because I get solaris features in a
userspace I'm familiar with, or heinous, because it's ... not
Solaris. I feel very conflicted.

OK, I'll bite. Would this be a _Good Thing_ if I want to keep much of
the stuff that I now have under Fedora Core 3? Is there a good way to
make a transition between ext3 file systems managed by LVM to ZFS?

In terms of actual hardware, I could remove my current system SATA
system drive (200GB, with 32MB Dell utility partition, 8GB ext3 root
file system, rest of drive LVM with one swap partition and 5 assorted
ext3 partitions). Then do a GnuSolaris installation on a completely
new drive (300GB) and put the old system drive into an external USB
box. Maybe even use the Dell maintenance CD to make a new utility
partition, if this is compatible with the underlying Solaris.

Then what to do to copy useful stuff off the old drive onto the new
one? Assuming that the OS understands LVM, just use tar or rsync or
something? At least I would always have the fallback position of
swapping the old drive back into the CPU box.

Sounds like a good weekend project, when I can find a spare weekend.
Have to read some more ZFS documentation.
