What are the specs of the AC adapter you need?  Voltage? Current?
Connector diameters (inside & outside)? Connector polarity (center=plus,
center=minus)?

Odds are that it is a 4- or 6-pin connector in mini-DIN form factor.
Odds are also that the pinout is different from what you are
expecting.  I have two or more AC adapters for disk enclosures that
have the same part number and different pinouts for the 5V and 12V
outputs.  Makes for careful labelling of the parts.  :-)

To answer the original question, I will try to bring a USB enclosure
to the July 7 Installfest at the bookstore.  It is capable of either
SATA or PATA connection, and has been used with a 300GB drive.  I
don't think there is an artificial size barrier between 300 and 400.
