I have a Linksys WPC54GSv2 Wifi card that was working fine in FC6 -
until I did a recent Yum update. It uses the bcmwl5.sys driver.
Now 80211_softmac insists on a 4.xx or newer - I assume because of a
buffer overflow exploit of the 3.x driver. Linksys does not offer an
updated driver for this card. I downloaded a more recent driver from
Linksys (bcmwl6.sys) for different card (supposedly, all firmware files
for the BCM43xx work for any card using that chipset, regardless of
brand), but fwcutter doesn't recognize that file.
Anyone know where I can find a version 4 bcmwl5.sys file. I've googled
myself to death - even checked Microsoft's site with no luck so far.
(I've never gotten Ndiswrapper to work, BTW, whereas using
bcm43xx_fwcutter does work, or did).
Just in case you haven't seen:
http://www.filewatcher.com/_/?q=bcmwl5.sys
Of course, someone finds one within minutes! But thank you, at least the
latest file on that page loaded. Whether it works or not remains to be
seen, but I'm closer. At least softmac doesn't complain anymore.
Umm, [hopeful] maybe it's a fwcutter problem and they will catch up to
the yum update before long?
I presume you've looked around at
https://lists.berlios.de/mailman/listinfo/bcm43xx-dev
but have you posted this question there?

I looked at the fwcutter website - a rather snotty place to be sure. But
no, I did not questioned the list. That's a to-do if I get nowhere with
the current file.
