I've only used a Big-IP F5 load balancer, and have no complaints. It's
pretty sweet. I can't say it's my favourite though, due to my limited
experience in the load-balancing realm.

I have used them also. In fact I currently have a couple of them which I am waiting to replace with a Linux Virtual Server solution. F5 BigIP load balancers use Linux Virtual Server underneath on a Redhat Enterprise Linux base distro. It's a very expensive Linux box. If you have the technical skills I recommend just building your own.
