Compare a kernel from kernel.org to one you get from debian.org. The one from Debian has had most if not all (we are working on getting them all!) of the non-free binary blob driver bits removed. Linus is far to pragmatic to remove them. The good folk at Debian are far more idealistic. Linus figures: if he has permission to redistribute the binary blob, that is good enough.
