Heads On Fire, the technology education org that I direct, is receiving an
advanced digital design and fabrication laboratory from MIT this week.
They call them "Fab Labs" and they combine computer controlled milling
machines with open source software and programmable electronics to allow
people off the street to "make almost anything."

There are a number of ways I'm hoping to involve the community at large and
a thought some folks on this list might be interested. I placed some links
below to give a better idea of what the Fab Lab is. If you're interested at
all, contact me.

Neil Gershenfeld, who directs MIT's Center for Bits and Atoms, and a fairly
large engineering team is coming next week to help with the installation.

I particularly want to hear from Comp Sci kinds of folk who want to come and
play in the lab next week while the MIT team is dong demos and trainings.
The ideal person would excited by one or more of these: Linux, Python,
network admin, open source dev, programmable micro controllers.
