The wlan0 "no scan results" is a definite disappointment.
..umm..
Is there a little switch on the front of the laptop?
Is it turned on?
Maybe it would be different if you could get rid of wmaster0,
And, as dja has suggested, can you post the output of
iwconfig wlan0
