Find yourself a copy of an MS-Dos boot disk and use "fdisk /mbr" (note, no
c:).
If you don't have a boot disk, you can sometimes use the bootdisk that
came with XP.
If you don't have that, then you can use the "Recovery Console" and use
fixmbr.
If you can boot into XP, then you can use "Disk Management" in the CMC and
choose "Make Partition Active". Don't really recall if this will actually
re-write the MBR, it's been a while since I've played with this sort of
stuff.

Finally, debian-like distributions have a utility called, appropriately
enough, "mbr" which will create a new mbr for you.
