I finally learned how to turn on WEP for wifi.
Now it seems that WPA is the new (secure!?) standard I should use?
Not particularly secure. And sufficiently complex that most vendors get
some part of it wrong/suboptimal.
Is it easy to switch? how?
Depends on your OS and wireless card.
The real question is: why do you want encryption on your wireless?
For me, the only real thing I care about is someone leeching my
bandwidth when I want that bandwidth. Otherwise, I really don't care.
So, my using WEP is more than sufficient. If someone cracks it and I
notice, then I'll probably turn on something stronger.
If I actually care that much about security, I'm probably going to run
it over SSH or SSL anyway. Since I run my computer on public WiFi spots
enough, my computer has to be secure anyhow. The WiFi password really
gains me very little.
The only thing which really goes in the clear is my web surfing. If you
find that exciting, I assure you that you really need to get a life.
