Is your hard drive SATA? I thought you had a Parallel ATA (IDE) drive.
It wouldn't hurt to bump both controllers up. dmesg should show which
controller has which drive.

I'll answer for Lan since I know the hardware. His hard drive(s) are SATA and attached to the SiI3112. The DVD-RW drive is connected to the IDE bus on the Intel chipset. There are two SATA hard drives that are spanned together with one big LVM volume (Mythdora's decision).
