I have a woman in her 80s I support, computer-wise. She's almost family.
She uses Linux (it's all she knows). And her old Nokia monitor is showing
signs of croaking. I'm soliciting a donated monitor.

Nothing fancy. Color and 1024X780. A tube is fine. 17" or 19" preferred.

She's a "good home." Mary was a young teen in Portsmouth when WWII broke
out. She dropped out of school and got a job, then when she was old
enough, enlisted in the WRENs. She split the war between London and
Portsmouth and saw the blitz and the preparation for Normandy. She met
Churchill, Montgomery, and Eisenhower's driver, Kay Summersby (the "other
woman" he had to renounce to become president -- the stuff of Greek
tragedy) ... but she admits she was too shy to introduce herself to
Eisenhower himself.

The reason this pertains is, she uses Linux for word processing, and has
written three very romantic war novels (self-publish, rather good for a
self-taught amateur) and a memior. Because she knows what she's writing
about, I imagine they may prove valuable to historians some day.

She also browses UK newspapers and uses email to keep in touch with her
friends in England. She is an inspiration to me and my poster child for
why Linux IS ready for the desktop, if only we put aside our inferiority
complex.

Her current monitor is doing that thing where it jumps, comes on all
purple, jumps again, and is OK. I've seen this before, and it was always a
sign of impending HW collapse.

Because I'm the beggar here, I'll arrange to pick up whatever is offered.

TIA,
