I have a new F8 install (my granny user) that I'm trying to install a low

Today I'll try again and also plug/unplug my memory stick. If nothing, the
USB is not working? Anyway, are there other tricks to try?
I expect you have some minor problem with USB. But have fun with that
Canon Printer and Linux. I got one for my mom to replace her ancient,
but never-had-a-problem-with-it HP 310. Nothing but problems since.
I found no workable native Linux drivers for it, and finally had to buy
a driver from TurboPrint (don't use their "Free" version, as it spews
their logo randomly onto every page printed) which does work mostly.
You can find various Linux drivers and PPD files on Canon's Japan
website, but I don't remember how I found those - endless googling, I
suppose. I was never able to get the Canon-supplied Linux files to work,
maybe because I am just ignorant of what to do with them, and there
being zero documentation from Canon.
Since upgrading my mom from FC5 to F7, things seem to have improved.
Although F7 still ignored that printer. Using the TurboPrint drivers and
tools was the solution again. The only problems since seem to be CUPS
related (either CUPS is a POS, or I am an idiot or both).
For one, I will never buy another Canon printer for use with Linux (nor
a Brother - similar driver-related problems with that on my sister's FC5
box).
