ssh-agent is indeed an extremely useful utility. If you're using PuTTY on Windows, you can use Pagent, which you can either download seperately, or it comes in the "installer for everything" download. Mac users can use SSHKeychain (which has some extra niceties like tunnel management), or, in 10.5.1, take advantage of the automatically- enabled ssh-agent.
