If you are using it as a workstation then I'd stick with 32-bit. I did a
64-bit 7.04 and I have been fighting it ever since. No Flash ! I
upgraded to 7.10 and I lost Gnome... I mean it stopped working properly.
When I have time I will re-install from scratch 32-bit 8.x (I assume it
will be 8.4 or something).

If you need more than 4+ Gigs of RAM, then make sure your MoBo supports
PAE and just use 32-it Ubuntu. I understand that our customers are
experiencing speed improvements with 64-bit for some apps. But, 64-bit
eats RAM faster.
