Well, that's a typo for ellipses. Which is the plural of ellipsis.
Which is three dots ...
The word ellipsis is seldom used in the plural except as above,
referring to various punctuation devices all in the plural. It is ot
directly related to the geometric figure known as the ellipse.
By the way, the em-dash is a horizontal line the width of the letter
M. Guess what an en-dash is. Neither of them is the same size as a
minus sign. But on a typewriter you can't tell.
