Ok, I've fired up Ubuntu v7.10 and watching dmesg, see the device load and unload as I plug it in and unplug it.
Here's what it says when I plug it in. [ 1010.316532] usb 4-3.3: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice [ 1010.316869] /build/buildd/linux-ubuntu-modules-2.6.22-2.6.22/debian/build/build-generic/media/gspcav1/gspca_core.c: USB SPCA5XX camera found.(SPCA561A) It looks like the system sees the webcam and even automatically loads the driver.
