Someone on the list mentioned recently that he doesn't use marks
much, except when he wants to return to his original position after
a large change. Vim actually provides a mark for "last position"
so that you don't have to set one.

After a :%s/.../.../ command, Vim will take you to the position of
the last substitution, but `` will take you back to your position
before the change.
