there is no root user password set as the system is designed to be used with sudo. If you really want to run as root with a password then use this: sudo passwd root but if you just want to do a bunch of root'ie things, another way is to open a console as root: kdesu konsole for a gnome installation, there's some gtksu or something like that. You can find out what it is by doing something which opens up the sudo login window and then look at the ps -fe output to see what command is being run.
