So I looked at jeOS ("just enough OS") that Ubuntu provides for vmware purposes, and I've installed it, and I find myself wondering...

What's the difference between that and a base install of Ubuntu Server? It takes about the same amount of space... What do I gain from using the jeOS release over the Server release?

I feel like I'm missing something.

Other than the optimized kernel, you're not gaining much. They key to the jeOS project isn't jeOS itself, but ubuntu-vm-builder - the magic that lets you build your own custom jeOS appliances. It's a very enticing alternative to rPath, especially with paravirt-ops now baked right into the kernel.
