I think some find a position or two which have more value to them and
base their "lesser of two evils" kind of voting based on that. It is still
being part of the process and makes sense to me. I think when some
people get so fed up that they feel there is no difference between the
two dominant parties, a vote out of band is as much a vote for a new
system as it is a vote for that 3rd party candidate.

There's one thing that's certain and that is that there are a wide variety
of selection criteria applied and some are 'out there'.
