Unfortunately, there is plenty of software out there that doesn't work on

maintain and administer.

The only Windows machines in my house is my laptop which dual boots W2K and my new desktop which is Vista. Both W2K and Vista suck. It took me forever to figure out where the network settings in Vista are. The mail program is a real POS. I swear there's a new update from M$ every day and there is a new update for all my anti- virus/spam/spyware/adware applications daily. The ONLY reason (as stated in another thread) I have it is for the latest games and because it was installed on the PC when it was "given" to me.

W2K is on the laptop because I used to need it for work. I don't really need it now, so I'm considering removing it to give Linux more HDD to use.

My kids use Linux, though I need to update the box from FC3 to FC8. It was broken for a long time, but is now fixed. Our Linux systems do everything we need. We do not *need* games, and in fact the one game my daughter really likes is on the web, so Firefox is all that's needed there.

It is rare that I find any reason that Windows is required by anyone, including any of my clients. I have recommended a Mac to my sister, and she bought one, and loves it. I was going to buy one myself. Note that many Linux applications will run on OS X.
