If you don't mind carrying another small lump with a connecting cable,
get a D-Link  DWL_G730AP.   It is billed as "Wireless Pocket Router".
It will do several things, the simplest one is to connect to a
wireless network and convert it to wired ethernet.  Sort of the
inverse of an Access Point.  So if your laptop can handle wired
ethernet, this gadget gives it a wireless connection.

I bought one because it was cute and looked useful.  Eventually Jim
Doyle showed me how to make it work in this simplest application.
