Quick consultation with the Hardware Maintenance Manual for the T30
shows the following explanation, which of course was written for some
variety of Windows.
Fn +F4 Put the computer in standby mode.
To return to normal operation press the Fn key
without pressing a function key.
Fn + F12 Put the computer into hibernation mode.
To return to normal operation, press the power
button for less that four seconds.
It seems to me that I did Fn+F12 to my T30 with Ubuntu one day, and
was surprised by the hibernation mode, and accidentally recovered from
it by pressing the power button. But your experience may vary.
