IMHO, Wine outlived its usefulness about five years ago. I saw this as a last-ditch effort to stay relevant. I've gotten to the point where if a web page doesn't load on anything but IE then I don't need it as there are now usually plenty of alternatives. Not so back in the dark ages of c. 2002 AD.

Personally, I've found that VMware on a modern machine, with hardware graphics acceleration, does just fine for any Windows app I need, and I don't need to worry about compatibility. I've had very good luck with VMware workstation on Linux with well-supported hardware (yes, using vendor drivers for the NVidia and ATI graphics boards in those machines), and equally good success with VMware Fusion on my MacBook Pro.

If I'm going to be forced to use a Windows application, I don't want to have to suffer it "mostly" working because of the environment. Wine still doesn't give me a good feeling about stability and compatibility, and has been downright horrible in the past.

Anyway, my $0.02... Plus a $0.05 fuel surcharge. :)
