Any recommendations on analysis tools?

I like a little tool called iptraf. It is console based and will show you the traffic in and out and where it is going. It puts the interface into promiscuous mode but doesn't actually record the traffic. For that I use ethereal.

I've used MRTG for constant monitoring.

I've used iptraf to diagnose connection problems and network hogs real-time (and to see when Windows and other things phone home or do other stuff that they were trying to hide from me).

I've used ethereal for both of the above when I needed to analyze something over a period of time at some later date/time.
