That was a good idea.  I tried it but it didn't work thought. :(

At this point, I would figure out how to extract the source for the acpid
actually running on your machine and see what it is doing.

This is one (of many) reasons that I run gentoo, since it is so easy to
figure out exactly which source I'm running.
