Hola amigos,

I dunno if it is just my laptop which is admittedly not the latest and
greatest or more likely the config/drivers but I seem to lose DNS
connection from time to time. It may depend on the WiFi traqffic load.
I just do not know.

Look at this

64 bytes from Extreme-II.local (10.0.1.1): icmp_seq=1933 ttl=255 time=113 ms
64 bytes from Extreme-II.local (10.0.1.1): icmp_seq=1935 ttl=255 time=92.1 ms
From boblq-laptop.local (10.0.1.154) icmp_seq=1973 Destination Host Unreachable
From boblq-laptop.local (10.0.1.154) icmp_seq=1974 Destination Host Unreachable
64 bytes from Extreme-II.local (10.0.1.1): icmp_seq=1975 ttl=255 time=45.1 ms
64 bytes from Extreme-II.local (10.0.1.1): icmp_seq=1993 ttl=255 time=36.8 ms

WTF?

And this
64 bytes from Extreme-II.local (10.0.1.1): icmp_seq=2124 ttl=255 time=1.61 ms
64 bytes from Extreme-II.local (10.0.1.1): icmp_seq=2125 ttl=255 time=4684 ms
64 bytes from Extreme-II.local (10.0.1.1): icmp_seq=2126 ttl=255 time=3689 ms
64 bytes from Extreme-II.local (10.0.1.1): icmp_seq=2127 ttl=255 time=2692 ms
64 bytes from Extreme-II.local (10.0.1.1): icmp_seq=2128 ttl=255 time=1699 ms
64 bytes from Extreme-II.local (10.0.1.1): icmp_seq=2129 ttl=255 time=765 ms
64 bytes from Extreme-II.local (10.0.1.1): icmp_seq=2130 ttl=255 time=9.36 ms
64 bytes from Extreme-II.local (10.0.1.1): icmp_seq=2131 ttl=255 time=24.5 ms
64 bytes from Extreme-II.local (10.0.1.1): icmp_seq=2133 ttl=255 time=18.7 ms
64 bytes from Extreme-II.local (10.0.1.1): icmp_seq=2134 ttl=255 time=96.5 ms

Whooo hoo.

dig shows only one DNS at 10.0.1.1 ...

Is losing DNS common in such an environment?

Probably. Isn't DNS sent on UDP? Consequently, it doesn't have a retransmit. So, given the packet loss you're seeing, it's likely that a UDP packet will get dumped every now and then and the DNS timeout will have to fire.
