I have something I have been using for such needs with good results.

Cloud white Fluid
 is the name of a package of white ink and pen+nib that I bought (I
think) at a hobby shop or artist-supply place. It is more of a paint
than ink.

For example, I paint numbers 1,2,3 on my camera batteries, so that I can
rotate them in sequence to achieve wear leveling.
