http://t16web.lanl.gov/Kawano/gnuplot/index-e.html I think this guy may be the world's expert at using gnuplot. Evidently he is a nuclear physicist at Los Alamos, and has used it in technical pubs. There is rather thorough tutorial section that I really liked. And then, there is also a "not so FAQ" section with nice task-specific subsections. And there's more, including a gallery that has nice real-world (so far as lanl is real-world) examples.
