The Landscape of Parallel Computing Research: A View from Berkeley

http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/Pubs/TechRpts/2006/EECS-2006-183.html

This paper is a nice overview of the problems facing everybody in computing. It talks about the different application domains and attempts to break some stuff down.

It's a pretty good paper without requiring higher math. That doesn't mean it's an easy read, but it has a lot of thought provoking info.

I don't agree with all of their assertions and conclusions, but a lot of the stuff I have just never thought about.
