That's 4GB or 8GB of flash (i.e., instead of a hard drive.) The actual amount of RAM available for processing is likely in the <512MB range at the very most, to keep costs reasonable.

After running around with a 60GB iPod for a couple years now, though, I'm thinking 4-8GB is rather limiting unless you go crazy with playlists. 4-8GB split between music, movies and photos makes it feel smaller still, considering we've got ~20GB of music and ~16GB of photos at home (we haven't ripped any DVDs, but I don't even want to consider how much space those would take...)
