Stewart's bait lines are mostly better than his messages.

I find that (for me) in the progress of learning a spoken language, the
stages are: jumble; then, able to hear separate words; then, hear it well
enough to repeat it back (without understanding); and finally, progress in
meaning--what most people think of as "learning the language".
