I have had no luck with Netgear. I had one router that lasted about a year, and another that lasted about 6 months. After that, I switched to Linksys and haven't had any problems that an occasional reset wouldn't fix. It is too bad, though, because Netgear routers have some nice features. A fan might help, but that would depend on what is causing the failures.
