Looking back on the computer education provided by my public schooling I
feel quite cheated. Back then I didn't know about GNU or UNIX or even
that Logo could do more than just draw simple pictures. Why? Mostly
because the teachers didn't know either. It wasn't until I discovered
Linux that things really started taking off.
Brian Harvey has always been big into Logo and a few years ago made a
series of three books about learning programming with Logo. You can buy
them or you can download copies for personal use here:

Neat stuff and might be a good way for a young kid to learn about
programming. Does anyone see a way to download one big pdf? I don't.
Good stuff though. I have his book "Simply Scheme" in dead tree version
and it is a gentler introduction to scheme and programming than "SICP"
but haven't yet finished reading it.
