I've been using .NET and/or Mono for a few years now and never felt in
danger nor experienced any harm. There's also DotGnu which would get a
surge of support and interest if Novell ever tried anything screwy.

I also felt pretty comfortable with the MS people I met when I went
there for a symposium (mini-conference) on languages. They invited
people from the open source community and Sun to be there. I think
people forget that Microsoft.employees is not the same collection each
year.

Also, I perceive that the FUD pendulum has swung the other way and
Microsoft is now a victim as often as a perpetrator. But that's karma
for you and they'll have to deal with it.

On a related note, I'm supportive of different Cobra backends,
especially Objective-C and Java. However, these will likely have to be
provided by someone from the open source community as I'm busy with
the rest. Of course, I need to open source Cobra before that can
happen.
