I'd like to mention again that the San Diego Community College District has free computer classes at their North City Center campus on Aero Dr:
http://maps.google.com/?q=8401+Aero+Dr+92123 The topics range widely from basic topics ("this is a mouse" level) to sophisticated programming, web development, and applications. The courses I teach are related to open source. For example, tonight begins a 3-session class (three consecutive Wednesday nights, 5:30-9:30) on PHP & MySQL at the Beginning Level. It will be followed by an Intermediate Level class on the same topic. I've not taught Saturday morning classes before but it could be an excellent opportunity for those who have day jobs and can't get away for a daytime or weekday evening class. We have an Introduction to Linux class beginning this Saturday (8am-1pm) which runs for three sessions. Among the best things about these classes is that there is no preregistration, no fees, no prerequisites, no quzzes or tests, no homework, and no grades. We have just good information presented by competent instructors on modern equipment. We do need a minimum number of students to make a class run so I hope you will help spread the word. The evening PHP class should be OK but the Saturday morning class is a question mark since we've not offered that topic at that time before. Below is a list of my summer classes: Summer 2005 Courses * PHP & MySQL Beginning - 3x Wed 6/22-7/6 5:30pm-9:30pm Aero 130 * PHP & MySQL Intermediate - 3x Wed 7/13-7/27 5:30pm-9:30pm Aero 130 * Linux OS-Introduction - 3x Sat 6/25-7/9 8:00am-12:00pm Aero 130 * Linux & Apache - 3x Wed 8/3-8/17 5:30pm-9:30pm Aero 130 * Linux System Administration - 3x Thu 8/4-8/18 5:30pm-9:30pm Aero 130 The full list of courses offered at North City Center may best be seen at: http://www.sdce.edu/bit/north-cc I recommend using the "Show Me Everything" tab. "BIT" stands for Business Information Technology. My own classes are also listed on the web site I use to support the classes: http://www.ITeachPHP.com I look forward to seeing some of you tonight or at one of the other classes. Please help spread the word. There's no good reason why excellent free computer classes such as these should have to close early because we haven't attracted enough students. James _____ James D.
