All sound on a computer is digital. No computer in the world has the capability to handle the data comprised in the analog recordings found in vinyl. At best, we have approximations. wav is a lossless, uncompressed format. It takes up a lot of space, but takes almost no CPU to decode and play it. As was mentioned elsewhere, the majority of CPU comes in encoding. The current encoding schemes put all the CPU work on the encoder, and leaves the decoder to be very simple. -john -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-newbie
