Subject: SDCS Election 2006

The San Diego Computer Society will be having its annual elections for
membership to the SDCS Board on Tuesday, May 16th at 6:00 PM at the
monthly meeting of the SDPCUG in room 401 of the San Diego County
Office of Education, 6401 Linda Vista Road San Diego, CA 92111.

In order to be elected; to place a name in nomination; and to vote, a
person must be present at the election and must be a current
dues-paying member of the SDCS. All current dues-paying members of any
special interest group (SIG) affiliated with the SDCS are
automatically voting members of SDCS and are eligible for office on
the Board.

We want these elections to be open and inclusive, and we encourage ALL
members of ALL the SIGs to be present at this election. We can expect
that several people with differing visions of the future of the SDCS
will be running for positions, and being present to vote is the only
chance members will have to affect the course of this organization.
There can be no proxies.

We also are encouraging ALL members of ALL the SIGs to seriously
consider running for office or joining with friends to promote a
candidate for ANY position on the Board. If you have a vision for the
future of the SDCS, this is how to effect it.

All offices are subject to vote. These include:

President
Vice-president
Secretary
Treasurer
Directors

There is no stipend or reward for Board membership, although
reimbursement for approved expenses may be voted by the Board. It is a
volunteer position that runs one year. Those selected by the
membership assume office at the next meeting of the Board (generally
the last Wednesday evening of the month, but subject to Board
adjustment).

To determine if you are an eligible candidate or voting member, ask
your SIG president. Each SIG provides a list of dues paying members to
the Board for tax purposes (SDCS's taxes, not yours), and if any vote
is challenged, these lists, as amended on the night by SIG presidents
or officers present, will be used to validate status. We will also
accept dues ($6 per member per year) on the spot for those who wish to
qualify to vote. We don't want to exclude anyone.

Issues to be decided by the new board will include: purpose, direction
and even the continued existence of the SDCS; disposition of the SDCS
treasury; changes to the SDCS by-laws to present to the membership;
and other issues vital to the existence of this organization.

Several people have already volunteered to run for the top offices.
Several others are retiring from the Board after valuable service.
Candidates will need to be present at the annual meeting and should be
prepared to give a SHORT presentation on their philosophy and plans
for the SDCS. We are grateful to all the people who are willing to
offer their services.

If people who wish to announce their candidacy prior to the meeting
will send me emails with the office sought and a SHORT description of
their platform, I will forward it to the SIG presidents for cascading
to the email lists.

Thank you all,
