This might be what's referred to in DHCP parlance as the Client ID. It's a dhcp option passed from the dhcp client to the dhcp server during the DHCPDISCOVER or DHCPREQUEST phases, when the client is asking for configuration information.

Typically, linux/unix/bsd hosts running the standard variety of DHCP client software packages will send nothing other than a "please configure me" message, so this additional information is not present.

Lots of interesting information can be sent between the server and client with dhcp options. If you have dhcp installed on a machine, look a the dhcp-options man page.

DHCP supports quite a number of configuration items, if they're honored by the client system.

I am using a Linksys router and software. I would like to have a "Client Host Name" show up in the "DHCP Active IP Table". Where is the "Host Name" stored in Redhat FC 5?

Thanks,
Jim
