You should have a utlity - aplay (part of alsa-utils). You can use that
to play a .wav file.
There is probably some easier way, such as catting an .au out to
/dev/dsp or something, but I like (and recommend) aplay.
yes, in the "old" days, they used to just cat a .au of Linus pronouncing
"Lee-Nucks" in .au format to the /dev/dsp
