Hmmm, maybe there's been a bit too much history to really understand what the current situation is. You may be best off trying to get to an installfest for some hands-on help. But, just in case discussion might shed some light, I have a couple of questions/observations: - when you say first sector of sda, that _means_ mbr -- so I can't understand what you might mean by "not MBR" - I wonder if System Commander was participating in this scenario, or was that just in the prior incarnation? - you speak of RAID0 under RH9. But surely you didn't think you could run W2k on a redhat software raid, er... did you? - if you tried to build a RAID0 within FC6 and included the W2k partition, I think you probably did _something bad_ there <grin>. > > I could install Fedora6 with an rpm version (kernel-2.6.18-1.2798.fc6), but > not with linux-2.6.20 (computer locks at "Checking for dependencies of > selected packages." ). This is a different issue, I guess? Maybe a separate install that you are experimenting with? A kernel update operation failing after install? Maybe just a bad rpm? And, are you saying the realtek NIC worked on RH9 but not on FC6? That would be surprising, but if so, might be a good clue. > > Any suggestions as to how to get this box running ... free or hired? Perhaps someone with more W2k expertise can chime in, also, but if you want to have RAID0 protection for both W2k and FC6, then you have to either: - use hardware raid or - use W2k disk-manager software-raid for W2k partitions and FC6 software raid for the Linux partitions. Neither will have access to the other. The separate issues with the kernel update and realtek are probably not tough to fix, although I'm sure that they may seem like they deserve extra penalties for _piling on_, eh? ;-) In any case, I would repeat the suggestion about installfest. We have one scheduled on Apr 7 and another on Apr 14. Ask if you need more info. Regards, ..jim -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-newbie
