Carl & All,
Thanks for your time, it is appreciated. In brief, after downloading the
distros, I used the preinstalled Roxio program (on my Sony Vaio) to copy the
distros to CD using the "data" option. It seemed straightforward but maybe
I need a more robust CD burning program.
When I put the CD(s) into the drive while XP was running, I can see there is
data saved but I do not have software installed for Windows to read this
file type.
Do you see one file named something like ubuntu-6.06-desktop-i386.iso
or do you see a bunch of files and directories? If you see only one
file, you have copied the file containing the disk image as a file.
If you copy the contents of the file to the disk, then you will see
all of its parts separately.
Somewhere in the program there must be an option like "copy a disk
image". Used like this, which dates back to when Roxio was called
"Easy CD Creator"
1. Insert a blank CD into the CD writer.
2. Launch Easy CD Creator.
3. In the File menu, select "Create CD From Disk Image".
4. Browse to the location where the ISO image was saved on the
hard drive.
5. Select ISO from File Type.
6. Select the ISO image file.
7. Click on OK.
8. Click on OK once again.
Some names may have changed with newer versions of Roxio, but the
thing to look for is "Create From Disk Image" and not "make Data CD".
