I found it quite easy. I used the stable release, and I scheduled all
patch downloads for about 3am. Even when I had unstable chroots that
updated, it was easy to keep on top of.

The problem had lain mostly in installing new systems. I got around that
one mostly by maintaining my own cache. The tools were there to make
this easy.

These comments apply directly to Debian, but they are equally applicable
to ther distributions.
