The 7.10 is available today, Thursday, 10-18-07,. You don't have to wait till next week. Also, you can download the "alternate desktop" CD if that is more convenient than doing the "apt-get update", "apt-get dist-upgrade". You'll find a little box to check on the Ubuntu website under where it says "Start Download"
