Thunderbird Webmail Extension

I was checking on different features of 
Thunderbird that I would like to use and I ran 
across the WebMail extension:

My question is, what do you need this for? I 
have Thunderbird setup now to POP mail off my 
GMail accounts without this extension by 
configuring "Edit > Account Settings".

What does this this add that "Edit > Account 
Settings" doesn't already do?
