Yes, I have seen that as well. The autoresponder there could easily look at the From: part of the message and send a reply accordingly. On other lists I have been on, any message sent to the group also received a flurry of bounce messages for the bad addresses. The business of taking any reply as a subscription confirmation seems to be the issue here. If someone knows that an account behaves in this way, they can spoof a subscription and know that it will be confirmed automagically.
