Until this morning my installation of sidux worked fine. Then I ran into a problem I've had before (sometimes) with openSUSE, but never with sidux--or any debian-type distro. I never figured out how to get past it in SUSE, but wasn't that concerned because I'm not really that crazy about SUSE. I love my sidux installation and would like to be able to keep it instead of starting over.
It goes like this. I turn on the computer and it starts to boot up. I get past the Splash screen. I get past the line about starting hal. I get as far as: Starting K Display Manager: kdm Debian GNU/Linux lenny/sid sidux tty1 sidux login: philip Password: (I enter the Password, it then takes me past Last login...etc. on to: Debian GNU/Linux comes with ABSOLUTELY NO WARRANTY to the extent permitted by law) Then I come to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ (although it does not come up as an email address--it only does that here) And that is as far as I get. I can not get the GUI to come up. I don't know what command to use to get it to show up. When it is booting up I do see something I haven't NOTICED before--something about no ISDN card and modprobe--but it goes by too fast to read. (I write NOTICED because it may have been there all along, and I just never saw it before.) So I have two questions. One: Is there a command that I can use to get past the login and bring up the GUI? And two: Is there a way to stop the boot process so I can get a better look at the part about "no ISDN" and get a better idea of what may be causing the problem. As always, thanks, Phil -- [email protected] http://www.kernel-panic.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/kplug-newbie
